The U.S. Missile Defense Agency has selected Raytheon to develop the hypersonic anti-missile Glide Phase Interceptor.

What we know

Glide Phase Interceptor is a missile that will intercept hypersonic weapons in flight. It will allow the United States and allies to provide an additional layer of defense against threats.

The development costs $62,000,000. The military-industrial company Raytheon stated that $21,000,000 has already been spent on the initial phase of the program. It is noted that the Glide Phase Interceptor design will use the same components used in other hypersonic programs.

As a reminder, Raytheon has 50 years of experience developing weapons to intercept enemy missiles. The company's range includes the Tomahawk, Stinger, Sea Sparrow, Maverick, HARM, ACM, Sparrow, AMRAAM, Sidewinder, Standard Missile 3, Joint Standoff Weapon and ESSM.
